Temperate grasslands go by various names depending on where they are. Steppes, prairies, and pampas are the names for the temperate grasslands in Eurasia, North America, and Argentina, respectively. Temperate grasslands are found in the colder, drier climates, as opposed to tropical savannas. Similar to that, temperature varies more widely. In the winter, it is below zero degrees, but in the summer, it can reach 90 degrees. Additionally, temperate grasslands receive substantially less precipitation than tropical savannas do. The annual amount of rainfall ranges from 20 to 35 cm. The northern hemisphere’s temperate grasslands also receive precipitation in the form of snowfalls. On such land, the vegetation grows very small due to the low temperature and harsh climate, and frequent fires. This grass developed in deep roots so the soil can be prevented.

Difference between tropical and temperate grassland

Location
The tropical grasslands d found in tropical areas like Africa, South America, and Australia. On the other hand, temperate grassland is found on the north and south equator like Australia, North Ameri, ca, and Argentina.
Climate
The climate does not vary very much in the tropical grasslands. The climate of tropical grasslands is wet and dry. On the other hand, the climate of temperate grassland has hot and cold seasons.
Temperature
In tropical grasslands, the temperature does not change much. In summer it moves to 78 to 86 Fahrenheit and in winter it varies from 68-78 degrees. In temperate grasslands temperate can drop to below zero and rise to 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
Soil quality
The soil quality in tropical grasslands is less fertile because of the high iron content. The grass is also very tall due to high rainfall. The temperate grasslands are more fertile because of nutrients and the soil color is also darker. Due to low rainfall, only a few trees can grow.
Precipitation
In the tropical grasslands there is high precipitation in the wet season. While there is little rain in the dry season. On the other hand, in temperate grasslands there is low precipitation so the grass gets less rainfall as compared to tropical grasslands.
